Last summer The Foster Festival splashed into the Niagara theatre scene when it landed in downtown St Catharines on Lake Ontario for its inaugural season of three wonderful Norm Foster comedies!
Audiences raved about the quality of our productions and a new theatre was born! This year we’re bursting with pride again as our namesake resident playwright Norm Foster has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada – the highest civilian honour a Canadian can receive.
We’re celebrating with another season of the finest of Norm Foster’s comedies including (count ‘em) 2 World Premieres!
First up is the World Premiere of Screwball Comedy – a zany romp through the high society world of 1938. Written in the style of the great movie screwball comedies like His Girl Friday starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, it runs from June 21 – July 7
Then get out your handkerchiefs for Old Love playing from July 12 – 28 and featuring Canadian television stars and real life husband and wife Janet-Laine Green and Booth Savage. Bud is long-divorced. Molly is newly widowed. What happens when Bud shows up as Molly bids farewell at her husband’s grave will knock your socks off. You’ll laugh and shed a few tears as you enjoy this valentine to courtship and the indomitability of love.
Our final show of the summer is Foster’s second World Premiere – Lunenburg. Featuring Shaw Festival veterans Melanie Janzen, Catherine McGregor and Peter Krantz, it’s the story of American Iris who arrives in Lunenburg Nova Scotia to take possession of a house owned by her suddenly deceased husband…problem is she knew nothing about it. A roller coaster ride of surprises, it’s part mystery, part romance and a whole lot of laughs. Playing from August 2 – 18, it’ll be your last chance to catch the Foster Festival until next year.
